This article will tell you how to spot some tell-tale signs that could indicate if you are on your way to mediocrity.

Everyone wants to be the best at something. But most of the times, what many people really want to is to be ‘average’ or at least something close to it. That’s especially true if you feel that there is a particular region of your life in which you are lacking. Whether it’s general happiness, wealth or health, there’s comfort in knowing that you actually aren’t struggling more than most and are well within the nominal range but these are those times when ‘average’ is edited and distributed through the colored filters of social media and it becomes very difficult to tell how you’re doing in relation to everyone else. Here are four areas listed below to help you get a sense of your unedited reality, where you’re probably a mediocre or on your way to becoming one,

Exercising, you’re not doing as much as you should — You side with the majority in case you aren’t sure you’re getting enough exercise or not. Health and nutrition are 1st major areas that are needed to be improved in order to be above average in anything or any field. People have trouble sticking to nutritional rules, thanks to the amount of easy to make and much easier to have, junk food available in the market. Moreover less than 5 % of individuals have a half hour of exercise every day and only about one in three adults gets the recommended amount of physical activity every week.

Impostorism, you are trying to overcome impostor phenomenon at work—By estimate around 70 % of people at some point deal with imposter syndrome at work, so don’t think too much in case you feel the same way, you’re not the only one. This phenomenon is described as possessing ‘intense feelings that your achievements are undeserved’. People who are actually incompetent are often painfully unaware of that fact and grossly overestimate their abilities compared to their peers. As it is truly said ‘Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge’ so if you’re afraid that you aren’t as smart as other people think you are, that’s probably a good sign.

Only few close friends are there for you— In general, an average person has 40 friends, including 2 best friends, 4 close friends and 5 work buddies. Your unique circumstances are going to shape your experience, everyone has different ideas about what kind of relationships are best for them and most of the people have less than 6 close friends, with whom they can talk about personal stuff or pretty everything.

Feeling of unhappiness — Trust me on this one, people’s happiness has remained roughly unchanged or has even declined in some cases, though per capita income has more than doubled since 1972. If recent events or the past few years have left you feeling a bit down, you’re not alone buddy. More than 70 % of the total population feels this way.

It’s very important to understand and keep in mind that falling outside the realm of average for any given category isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But these statistics can provide a useful way to understand how you’re doing and can also help you become a better version of yourself in the respective field.
